Cycling Hobart - AvantiPlus
Hobart to Kingston Beach and return

This smooth, winding road will take you along a scenic route through the picturesque suburbs of Sandy Bay, Taroona, Bonnet Hill and Kingston, which is one of the most popular routes amongst the Hobart cycling community.

The whole route is approximately 31 kilometres long with around 400 metres climbing, making the route accomplishable for the novice cyclist, yet still a fast, fun route for those seeking a beneficial training ride.

Recent developments by the Tasmanian Government have seen $1.5 million invested into creating bike lanes on both sides of Bonnet Hill, making the route even safer and smoother for cyclists and motorists.

For those wanting to make a morning of the ride, there are several local cafs and restaurants along the way. Whether you are just seeking a mid-ride coffee or a 3 course lunch, there are plenty of options available.

Directions:

1. Turn RIGHT onto Sandy Bay Road and follow your nose the whole way to Kingston. (Sandy Bay road becomes Channel Highway in Taroona). This road will take you through the Sandy Bay restaurant district, past Sandy Bay beach, through Taroona, and up and over Bonnet Hill.

2. You will know you are in Kingston when you have completed the flowing descent down Bonnet Hill and are met by a traffic light intersection. At this intersection, turn LEFT onto Beach Road and follow the road the whole way down to the beach.

3. Once you have reached the beach, turn LEFT onto Osbourne Esplanade. This is a fantastic place to stop and enjoy some fresh lunch or a drink at one of the many restaurants or cafes. If continuing on, follow the road which runs parallel with the beach, turning LEFT with the road when you approach Browns River.

4. Turn LEFT at Balmoral road and continue back towards Beach Road.

5. Turn RIGHT onto Beach Road.

6. Turn RIGHT at the traffic light intersection. From here you will be retracing your steps all the way back to AvantiPlus.
