The harbourside dock area forms part of the foreshore of Sullivans Cove. It is one of Hobart's historic landmark areas where visitors can watch motor pleasure boats, yachts, and fishing boats come and go, explore the old buildings which line its shores, or enjoy a meal or a coffee at one of the many restaurants and cafes here.
Head down to Salamanca Place where you will find 19th-century waterfront warehouses dating back to the 1830s whaling days. Today they house cafes, restaurants, galleries and art studios, the ideal place to wander or enjoy alfresco dining. On weekends, enjoy the famous Salamanca Markets.
Retaining the character of a Cornish fishing village of the last century, the inner Hobart suburb of Battery Point began life as a home for mariners who worked out of Hobart Town. It is still mainly a residential area, with many historic homes and shops, some which are open for inspection as folk museums and art galleries.
